Oh yes, underdogs seem to have a way of stealing my heart! I usually root for them and find myself identifying with them the most!

She understands the value of life after she kills her first Order member, and she realizes that life is precious and not to be taken lightly. For a young teen, this is a large concept to grasp so quickly.
Heat sounds like a great character for YA to be reading about!

He definitely started out as the underdog. Even after he rose to mage-status, he still had inner and outer battles to fight. Harry Potter is a great character to compare him with; they really do share some similarities. I agree, the backstories were essential. The author weaved those into the story very well.
This sounds like a good book esp is in comparison to harry potter where characyers are concerned!

My favorite character is Heat. I love female characters who are strong, can stand up for themselves and know how to go around situations when when everything seems hard. Just like Beatrice in the Insurgent. Despite the guilt and all, she was strong and always went for what she knew was right.

I dont know why, but I liked Heat a lot. Though her character wasn't given much importance (IMHO), I loved all the wonderful abilities she had.

A good writer writes in a way that all the characters are attractive and same is the condition here. My favorite is Brimstone

I've got to say Brimstone as well. He really remind me of Will from the Ranger's Apprentice series, although this book is definitely way darker. What can I say, I'm a sucker for heroes.

Basically I liked all the characters but I think Brimstone was one of the characters who are written ro make the reader love them. I still can’t decide between brick and brimstone so I’d say both of them are my favourite.

I found that although Brick held great appeal, Brimstone that ended up being my favorite character. It's hard not to love a good underdog character.I can certainly see the similarities being drawn between Brimstone and Harry Potter.

I loved Garfa. It was such a tragic little section of the book. I wish she could get some vengeance or at least some peace.
