Marty's Reaction to Jennifer Leaving

Post by Reviewer Book »

Jennifer speaks with Marty over the phone to let him know that she will be gone about a month or two helping friends far away. His response is minimal, and I find that hard to believe. What are your thoughts?

I thnk over the phone all emotions cannot be shared. So it may have seemed minimal.

I think, realistically, anybody would have had more of a reaction. Even couples that trust each other completely would want more information, or at least to talk in person.

I hope that some real couples don't ask questions and completely trust each other. They explain without being asked.

We can't say if the opposite end has a smile while talking or feeling offended

Texts are even worse. At least with a phone call you can hear the tone of voice.

I think his reaction did not fit the character the author portrays.

I think his reaction was not fitting with his character. It was very brief and while couples may trust each other and not question each other, I would still expect more of a reaction and wanting to know more about why she has to leave.

Marty has been in a relationship before. He got a divorce and has felt rejected. He is now being left behind with an explanation to be offered when Jennifer resumes. I am wondering whether the acceptance is only verbal, with numerous questions at the back of his mind or it was just a plain acceptance.
