Re: Marty's Reaction to Jennifer Leaving

Post by Jax14 »

To me the reaction was completely strange. If my new spouse suddenly told me over the phone they needed to go away for that amount of time I would not just happily say no problem! There would be so many questions. It's not a case of not trusting them but making sure they will be ok and safe while away - especially if I couldn't contact them. And using the phone? Far too impersonal. But maybe that's just me....

I haven't read this book, so I'm not exactly sure the exact context of the conversation, but could it be he knew her so well he didn't have to ask because he expected her decision, or was he so stunned he didn't know how to react?

It was minimal and the author should develop it more.

Maybe Marty trusted her enough not to ask any questions.

Marty's reaction seemed unnatural. It seemed the author was in a hurry to rescue jennifer's teammates in 27th century and paid less attention on what marty's reaction could be.

I was disappointed in the exchange between Marty and Jennifer about her leaving. This would have been a great opportunity to create some drama in the story. Either she could’ve debated whether to lie to him or tell him the truth, or he could’ve put up more of an effort to know where she’d be going - after all they are married by then. I felt that the author rushed through the last few chapters of the book.

It didn't feel right. Marty has had some very emotional reactions before, so to do this over the phone was bad enough, but his lack of a reaction made no sense.

I think Marty and Jennifer's whole relationship was unbelievable and poorly constructed.
