I definitely don’t think she thought things through. I agree that was not the place and time.

It was instantaneous for sure. No one plans to ruin a get together

I feel like a lot of aspects of this book were rushed, including how Jennifer treated her relationship with Marty. To me, it felt like they went out a few times and then she assumed they were in a serious enough relationship to force him to make things right with his ex. So yes, I think she crossed a line.

This is very true. It was far too early for her to be that comfortably planted in his life. If it was something that bothered her, having a conversation with him in private would have been acceptable, although Marty would have likely still been uncomfortable with the topic.

I think Jennifer should have mentioned her intentions to them before bringing it up. She should have talked to them separately.

I feel like she should have discussed it with Marty first and let him approach the situation or at least let him know her intentions so he could prepare himself.

Jennifer took it upon herself to try to initiate the act of forgiveness between Marty and his ex-wife but to his fortune that it didn't work

I feel that Jennifer had the best of intentions but it really wasn't her place. Even though the holidays tends to be a time for family to get together and can be a time to make amends and forgive, this wasn't Jennifers job to try and make happen.

I don't think she crossed any line, it was as good as any other.

This is my opinion too. She should have attempted to reach out to both of them first. The reaction could have been very different.

Yeah, her heart was in the right place and playing mediator isn't necessarily crossing a line, but she should have gotten consent from both parties before doing so. As it was, it wasn't the time to do this in front of Marty's ex's partner or their children, and it definitely wasn't Jennifer's place to spring it on Marty without warning.

I think it works within the really unrealistic novel, but in real life she would have crossed far too many lines and this behaviour would have backfired.
