It must be some reader's taste. In my opinion, if the author adds an element that takes up my time as a reader then it needs to have a purpose. In this case, it doesn't seem at all necessary.

I couldn't agree more with the latter part of your comment. The author surely overdid it in looking for a balance.Yolimari wrote: ↑02 Nov 2017, 16:45 I think the point of the explicit scenes was to develop the theme of polyamory relationships, which oddly enough was mostly discussed in the second half of the book. However, I did think the author over did it. My conclusion was that the book discussed several scientific concepts, and as a result, the author included the over the top erotic part to make the story exciting.

The first thing that comes to mind with science-fiction is not sexual scenes. I mean a few are all right, like you said closed-door instances. I am unsure of what the author was trying to accomplish but it has made the novel unrealistic. #lessonlearnedCaitlynLynch wrote: ↑20 Nov 2017, 22:26 I think explicit sex scenes have their place, but generally that place is in erotica novels. This one is being promoted as a science-fiction novel, and frankly I think closed-door sex scenes would be much more tasteful.
This, from an author of romantic erotica, by the way
