Firstly, nature would have taken its course; mixed reactions. Not knowing whether to be happy, to be sad or confused. Then with time I would have composed myself and inquire into how all these happened.

No matter the struggle, each encounter is meaningful and is destined to happen. Even if you we reject it, it might find its way back to us in the most unpleasant way. At least that's what I've learned from my life and if I were Tom, I would do the same. I would accept Sarah not because she might be a family, but because she might be an opportunity given by life.
I would do the same as this one

Since she is family I would have taken her in but maybe with some questions first. I think Ruth treated Sarah very poorly.

and again if I were Tom,i would still regret the time I failed to make up with my daughter as the story portrays that Tom did not even know the where about of his daughter Becky and what she was passing through.

First, denial, then I would still welcome the previous girl home. Offcourse shocked as ever. It's wouldn't be easy to welcome a stranger in your house.

For me, I would react differently than Tom did. I would probably pick up some quarrel with Ruth arguing about the girls origin, or maybe I would reject the girl outrightly. Hmmm... I'm still thinking of what I would have done if I had been Tom. Tell me your reaction.
Tom saw his daughter in this girl even at the beginning. I don't know if I would have wanted her to come on the trip but Ruth made it clear she did not want her.

It would definitely take me aback, coming out of the blue like that. Of course I would want some proof she was mine, but then again I guess it just depends on what she wanted from me. That's a bizarre situation.

The best decision for me is to reject the girls outright as I don't have anything to do with them.

If I were Tom, I would be so proud of Sarah because of her bravery. I would also continue to fight to raise her and give her the experience I wish I gave to Becky.

I would be being full of questions, how? where? are you sure? I would be hard to me to accept the fact that I have a granddaughter and I do not even know anything about her.

I believe I would have acted in the same way as Tom. Although, I believe I would be much more thoughtful and caring of Sarah. I believe there was not much he could do, other than keeping her near enough and wait for her to warm up to him. Also, it couldn't have been easy for him to come to terms with understanding how far things went to have a granddaughter that he never knew about.
