There is one aspect that I found good in the book for those women and that was choosing whom they wanted to marry as for the rest of it I think not life must have been very hard for them.
No idea is a bad idea.

Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.

We have evolved as a society, today we are able to see strong women and without limitations.

Life as a woman back then is definitely unlike today - women of the past were merely seen as objects, possessions of men to do as they wished. Women have certainly come a long way since then, with suffrage rights, although I feel that there is still more to be done to actually achieve gender equality.

life would have been very weird and tough for women because some culture here in Nigeria legally gives way to the discrimination of women especially when fate made them lose their husbands.

some culture will permit the brother of the husband to take over the property of his late brother and his financial assets and at most times take over the woman and when the woman refuses to concur to the her late husband's brother she definitely finds herself in very ill and devastated situation.

Women are taken a lot more serious now. They are appreciated more.

I would imagine it was hard for them because in the past they didn't have that many rights as they do now.

The fact that they kidnapped "stole" women from other villages for wives was probably a common understanding between the villages. I can't say that I agree with the way they were treated but in today's society woman, and children are taken and not for wives. Sure, women have more of a say in their everyday lives but if kidnapped "stolen" they would have a worse life now because today they know freedom.

I think less focus is on marriage now, especially marrying well. Women definitely have come further career-wise as well.

Women have always played an important role throughout history. Remember what Adam said when God created Eve to be his helpmeet and companion. "At last".

Yes, I think we came a long way from those days. Back to those days woman thought man are the one from whom they are identified and they feel pride from what their man do and what they are. But today life is changed and woman are way equal to man and have their own identity.

Life must have been so hard for women back then, like being retarded as a lesser gender with limitations. I liked that Strong heart became the best thrower and made others know that they could also do it.

I think that the book shows a realistic view of those times. It was a harsh world, many dangers, hardly any medical solutions, and people probably did not get very old. I can't imagine what childbirth must have been for woman in those days, or looking after a baby whilst trying to escape from wild animals. I was surprised that the author decided that women had the right to choose their man. I wonder if the made that decision based on any existing legends?

Women have come tremendously far. I can't imagine living in an era where everything was determined by the male wing of the family. We've still got a long way to go, but the progress from then till now is so very real.

I liked the portrayal of Native American women in the Ice Age. Life was obviously hard for everybody but I had a sense women had both freedom and equality in society. I especially liked the detail that women could stay in the tent (have rest days) while they had their periods.

It's really tough to even think of the struggles women must have gone through during that time. Voicing opinions and they actually being valuable was a tough scene. Strong Heart not only showed their struggles but how gradually things started to look differently.
