Fletcher Lynch: The villain

Post by Jan Moraa Onsomu »

Fletcher Lynch is married to Ruth, Tom's ex-wife. He was Becky's step-father and Sarah's step-grandfather. From the author's narrative, how do you feel about this particular character?

Personally, I had great dislike for him. He struck me as so pretentious, especially for someone who was holding such a high office in the community. That, plus he preyed on little girls!

I hated him from the very beginning. I think it's impossible to feel otherwise - I have seen absolutely no redeeming qualities so far. Maybe the next books will show other sides of his character.

He seemed like a predator and I wasn't surprised when the truth about him came out. He was definitely the villain of this book. Ruth is almost as bad!

He is a vile character, with no redeeming qualities. I hope that a sequel will show the man in prison.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

He was definitely never portrayed as a likable character, or even as a character who made mistakes he later learned from. I don't think we're supposed to like him, or even really give him a chance. I don't see how he deserves that chance. He's definitely a villain in the story.

I also agree with Amagine about Ruth. She seemed slightly surprised when she found out about Sarah and Fletcher's advances, but it makes me wonder how much she even tried to find out why her daughter ran away at a young age.

I don't think anyone will portray him as a likable character. I fact, I was very sorry for Sarah when I found out that he was her step grandfather; but even more sorry for Tom when it was later revealed that Fletcher had influence over Tom at Tom's workplace. He is indeed a villain.

I love Fletcher Lynch (paraphrased from The Banned Book About Love). LOL

It's quite challenging to find something to like about the man. But even Judas had a purpose in betraying Jesus. I'm playing devil's (or angel's?) advocate here so please don't ban me. LOL

I'm glad you and I are in agreeance about Ruth! I think she was also supposed to be portrayed as an is unlikable character.
