Yes, they brought and represented the Native American view to the story.

Tom and Sarah would never have gone camping on their own!! Not only do William and Myra convince Tom to take Sarah, but they also bring a lot of interesting stories and balance to the group!

According to me, they are very important for the story. They play some important role in influencing the actions of Tom and Sarah. Myra and William always supported Sarah, which gave her strength. They provide a depth to the novel.

William and Myra are supportive characters in the story. They are not the main characters but very important to the plot of the story. If they were not included in the story, Tom would not have planned his journey. When Sarah got lost, they supported Tom in the search. Therefore, their inclusion in the story was important.

When Sarah was dropped off at Tom's unexpectedly, he had no idea of how to deal with the situation. He wasn't the approachable or interactive kind of person. Sarah was the typical rebellious, authority-defying 13-year-old. A relationship between Tom and Sarah was quite unlikely and would not have been possible without William and Myra. I believe they were important to the story since they helped bridge the gap between Tom and Sarah.

I think William and Myra were supportive characters and sarah part was important in the story while she was only 13 years and did not want to do the trip.William was Tom's friend and Myra william's daughter and Sarah 's friend so it was logical that the other three characters wanted to do the trip with Tom on behalf of friendschip. It is true that Tom had its own reasons for travelling ,William was in poor health and Myra had lot of unresolved issues but they also seemed to like adventure and mystery.

One thing I liked about William is that his character was supposed to show you how difficult the mountain trail actually was, he would put things into perspective for the reader. Very clever if you ask me.

Yes, they were both important in relationship to Sarah. Myra provides emotional support to her and William believes her about the bear when Tom is skeptical.
Interested in books that help one's spirit move beyond the ordinary.

Mallory Whitaker wrote:Well, I don't think Tom would've gone camping with Sarah without being pushed by William, so there's that. Tom seemed sort of lackadaisical about a lot of things and they usually got him moving/acting, and I think he needed them there to help him figure out his new granddaughter. Their knowledge of the folklore and legends of their tribes turned out to be pretty important too.

I tend to agree. Actions by William and Myra actually kept the story moving forward. It seems that most major decisions were made by one of these characters.
