Women aren't always supported by the public...but they are indeed strong.

I think the dominant lesson has to do with conflict over forceful takeovers, with blatant disregard for others' opinions.

That was definitely an important lesson in the book.

I was interested in the underlying theme of environmentalism. The company would destroy the mountains for the mineral it wants and that seems like it will be a problem in future books.

Survival issues is what I can see. In sarah's story it was how their race was gonna survive and in tom's it was how their community was gonna survive

There are numerous challanges surrounding relationships some that lead to separation, divorce and heartbreaks. Take a look at Tom's family. They are no longer together. Everyone is on his/her own.

I think that the most important issue raised in this novel is the disappearance of races because it is culturally relevant to today. Our indigenous people are being pushed from what is left of their sacred lands and I am glad that someone has included it in their story.

Definitely agree with all these issues listed here. I would like to add trust if it hasn't been mentioned already. We see the adults struggle with believing Sarah, and surprisingly it seems like Sergei takes the most interest in Sarah's story, when he is the character that at first seems all about hard data and facts.
There is also the issue that Sarah must learn to trust the other adults in the group too.

Strong friendships? I like how Tom was friends with William and Myra despite their age difference.

The issue of child abuse is raised, as well as isolation

I'd say the conflict between development and archaeological, heritage retention along with the immense canvas creativity existing in the mind of a child.
