I can relate to the hurt justifying the rebellion in Sarah's mind. The defense mechanism employed by many teens, I was one of them. The guarded inching closer of a granddaughter to her grandfather is a page right out my own life. I see myself connect to this character at a very personal level.

The evolution of the character with her experiences is beautifully depicted.Tanny136 wrote:She appears to be snooty and not the adjusting kind in the initial pages of the book but later proves to be an interesting character as we read through the rest of the novel.

She definitely matured in the book.greenstripedgiraffe wrote:Well, Sarah may have been annoying, but I felt she was true to life. Uprooted, traumatized, thrown into an unfamiliar situation... how is she supposed to act?! She definitely had to come to an understanding of who she was before she was able to mature.
