I agree with all the above themes. There was also the theme of preserving land and culture versus further development of the area.

The preservation of land was definitely an important theme.

The theme that excited me the most was evolution of a person into a braver and stronger one.

In fact a number of themes exist in this story. I see bravery, persistence, culture, heritage, ambition , conflict , and many others.

Heritage and culture take most part of the story though there is also the theme of historical development and survival

I think that a theme of responsibility is also applicable. Tom felt it that it was his responsibility to return the atlatl to his grandfather. Sarah also showed a sense of responsibility and respect towards her great great grandfather.
