Yes but sadly the society we live in, doesn't follow that rule

Power has its blessings and its curse. If someone uses his power to serve or help other people then I consider it a blessing but if someone uses it to control other individuals, I consider it a curse. Respect is gained not through power but through respect.

The respect people get for having power & money is a different kind of respect that people get for being a genuinely good person. The first comes from almost being fearful of offending them, so as to not cause yourself trouble. The second comes from our own hearts.

Those who have power are feared but they are hated.

I usually see pride from the people around me. It is like a virus, it contaminates. I need to resist it.

I wouldn't prefer any of them. With power you can get what you want but no respect, nobody likes a proud person either. I would much rather be humble and honorable.

Darakhshan Nazir wrote:well, that depends on situation, environment and gathering also. If people around you are aren't show off and materialistic and they admire things in a ways that they truly are. Then, you will be respected and honoured, doesn't matter if you have a penny in your account or billions. But unfortunately, if you are surrounded by people who worship money. Then, definitely you are gonna need money and power, that is gonna push them to respect you. That's reality
Completely agree with this! Sadly, it does depend on where you are and who you are around. Well said!

Respect depends on the individual to whom it's given. Money and power is also given by people, it doesn't fall from heaven. You can have all the money and power but remain hated in the society.

Power and pride are usually backed by something.Money, Position, status etc. Take these away and what do you have?

I don't think you have to have money and power to be respected. To be frank those in power and wealth aren't really respected. They are feared or tolerated because of the influence they have.

I think it is definitely possible. It's not always easy, though. I think your actions also have a say in your reputation.

Money and power without character will not bring you respect and honour. People will only respect you out of fear or benefits of which when they are gone the respect goes with it. Honesty and integrity bring respect even without money and power.

It is unfortunate how materialistic society has become. Only a handful of people earn respected for their virtue.
