I used to keep a diary when I was younger but my mother kept reading it to her friends and it made me very wary of the idea. As I grew older I started to write poetry instead. I would use a lot of symbolisms so she wouldn't understand send eventually stopped prying. I later discovered that I had a knack for telling stories and I guess every piece I've ever written sorts of reflects some aspect of my life (in some way that's not often obvious unless you knew me really well).

I actually keep two journals. One for each of my girls. My one year old will not remember the time she learned to jump or anything like that. Same goes for my six year old. So I thought, why not keep a journal of their major events? Like how my daughter lost her first tooth. In ten years she's not going to remember that she lost it playing with her sisters pacifier. Yet, if she reads it in her journal when she grows up she will.

I used to, but not anymore. As I grew I felt that there was too much going on in my head to write them down. It would take hours to say or to type and write. I stopped.

I always keep a diary which I never leave behind because I have a new thing to note every few minutes.

I keep a journal and have done so for a number of years. In fact, when I traveled to Africa as a missionary I kept a diary for several years and still savor those experiences.

Yes. I'd be lost without my journal. Though it does scare me sometimes to know that if I die, there will be pages and pages of my thoughts just floating around for someone to read :(

I keep a sketchbook and a planner. The sketchbook contains a lot of thoughts/drawings and the planner helps me keep track of things. Together they would make a pretty complete journal.

I used to keep a journal until my teens but it became a source of anxiety since I didn't want anyone to ever find it.

That is so sweet! I was thinking of doing something similar when I had children.

My grandmother had a notebook where the top half the page was blank and the bottom was lined. I would draw a picture and she would write my descriptions (I was too young to write). Usually it was whatever we did that day. I still have it and I am always surprised by some of the small things that fade with time. Keeping a journal is definitely a way to capture those tiny moments and keep them from fading.

Yikes and same. I resolved to burn everything I don't want anyone to find. My aunt found a pack of old letters from a long deceased relative and unfortunately they were hilarious lovey-dovey letters and school delinquent notes. The note on the box said to burn it upon their death but it's still floating around in her attic. Talk about lesson learned...

I used to keep a diary. It was a good outlet for when I was frustrated. Eventually, I abandoned it after I got older. I don't think I would keep a diary know. I don't want someone picking it up and reading private things about my life.

I think that probably a diary and a journal should be kept under lock and key and the key thrown away on the last day of life.

I'd rather not keep a diary than be constantly worried over someone reading it because if I were to write one, it would contain all of my secrets and vulnerabilities which are not for anyone's idle consumption.

I used to keep a diary as a kid for a few months. I tried to pick up the habit again but it never stuck.

I used to keep a journal, but I haven't written in one for years. I used to write daily when I was in high school. In my first couple years of college, I would write when a big event or something emotional happened.

I used to but I got busy with life and it got left behind. I keep planning on starting to write again, and I know someday I for sure will, but it's hasn't happened yet.
