I am now a parent myself with adult children, and losing them would be harder. My stepdad just passed last month, and I can easily sum him up as "a less rich D. Trump" who lied and cheated his whole life. No loss there. But Mom is 80 soon and living in another state, so physically I am used to her not being here. She is super healthy and active and may outlive me, but if not I will miss our long-distance conversations.

It will be hard and very very painful. But life does go on. Life would never be the same again, but it will move ahead.

My father died 6 years ago. I don't miss him everyday anymore. I always look at his picture on my wallet because I don't want to forget his face. I don't get sad whenever I think of all the memories we had in the past. But whenever I imagine my future without him in it, (like when my future children won't meet him anymore, or when he won't even be there to see me accomplish my goals) I can't help but feel lonely. Maybe the pain doesn't really go away, we just learn how to live with it.

I would absolutely hate living without my parents. I have a hard enough time leaving home when I come for a visit. I love my parents!

Life at first would become harder primarily due to sadness caused by the loss. After some time passes, I believe their loss would leave room for more growth and opportunities. It would make me realise that i am capable of more than i think that i am. Having lost a person that meant the world for me i have grown to be a firm believer that opportunity is found even in the darkest places.

I agree that life will never be the same again but the memories will remain.

I have lived without my parents since 15, I can affirm that it's never the easiest of adventures of life. I definitely can't wish any such a life. Parental love is the best.

This depends on the age of the person. An adult can live without his/her parent especially when in the working class. The problem is when the person involved here is an infant or teenager who cannot support himself/herself. Life can be unbearable.

I don't know exactly what it will be without my parent but one thing I know for sure is that I will continue to live even if they are gone. We all won't die the same time so what's obvious is that at one point or the other, I will have to face life without them and vice versa for them if I leave first. I think that without them, I would have a hard time adjusting but will eventually be better by support from siblings and other family members.

That's an interesting question as only a few days back I started wondering the same and there was a jolt of panic went up my spine.

It would definitely be harder and more painful, but yes, I could live without my parents. My husband lost her father 11 years ago and misses him often. My husband would have loved his dad to know our children and have 11 more years of memories with him, but that didn't happen. He still has a rich a full life.

I agree but I believe the question is directed to us readers who are mostly from young adult to adult.
