To define a true friend one would really need to be one first. Loyalty and being there for your friend is a must.

I think the best of friendships are reciprocal. A great friend is one you can confide in with and he or she can do the same with you. They know all about your happy and sad moments and you know all about their own moments. I think once that reciprocity ends, usually the friendship ends as well. Nevertheless, friends are for a brief moment, a season, or a lifetime. Only a few are for long periods of time.

I like to have friends that you can always count on. While I enjoy being with people, I tend to have just a few friends that I know I can count on. However, I like meeting new people.

A friend is a person you can trust and in turn they can trust you back. Friendship is a two way road and both people have to participate in keeping it alive.

A best friend is loyal and honest, someone that you can count on to be there no matter what they have going on in their lives. Someone that you would drop anything for. It's an amazing experience to have a friend that has been there for years. When you look back on your friendship, you can see a quilt of experiences, trials, triumphs, laughter, tears. There is nothing like a lasting relationship with someone who has impacted your life.

Friends are those who don't abandon you in difficult times. A lot of people I used to consider friends turned out to be friends with benefits. Some put you in difficult times, some desert you.

I'm a loner so I never really hold on to friendships. This doesn't mean I don't value someone I can pour my heart out to.
