Crime and Punishment

Post by kandscreeley »

You knowingly commit a crime. You get caught. Do you then face the punishment for what you have done? Or do you take the easy (or hard depending on how you look at it) way out and kill yourself so that you don't have to face the consequences?

In The Expansion Max's parents take the easy way out. Would you?
A book is a dream you hold in your hands.

I think his father definitely took the easy way out. I feel he should have faced his troubles head on. Also, I would never make the choice that he made.

I'm a coward so I usually do not do things that will get me in trouble. :) if the punishment will be too severe, I will probably also take the easy way out.

commenting on this would seem much easier said than done. doing the right thing can prove an uphill task for me but I've always managed to overcome the obstacles in my way.

I can't imagine being able to do what Max's dad did. Not just taking the "easy way out," but the manner in which he did it. Yikes!

It depends on what gradation of crime. If it is a heinous crime, I might do what Max's dad did. If it is a petty crime, it is easier to face the legal consequence.

It does depend on the circumstance, but I do believe it's easy for the 'easy way' out. The factor I believe is important is my strength of will at that particular point in time.

I could not fathom taking "the easy way out." Facing consequences would be unpleasant to say the least, but even escaping into the wilderness would have been a better option.

As frightening as the thought of prison might be, I think committing suicide would be worse. I only read the sample of this book but it included the scene where Max's father crashes the helicopter. I was somehow left with the impression that he was doing it to spare Max from further embarrassment but maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly?

No, I couldn't abandon my children in the way that that his father chose to do. And not letting his mom have a choice was reprehensible.

I absolutely agree with you on it being reprehensible to not give the mother a choice. Even though suicide was obviously a conceivable way out for him, murdering another adds a whole new depth to this moral dilemma.

This decision is not as simple as some may want to believe. When human beings are pushed to their limits, anything can happen.

I feel that what his parents did helped their son out in the long run. It would be a difficult decision personally. Death really would be the easier choice because life in prison wouldn't be too glamorous.

If you have done a crime knowingly , atleast show some courage to fave the consequences. Don't just commit a sin and run away like cowards.
