I also started out with Enid Blyton and the Secret Seven and also enjoyed the Famous Five and the Five Findouters. I moved on to Nancy Drew though, and the Three Investigators.Kinnera wrote:I love detective stories! I started off with Enid Blyton and the Secret Seven were my favourite until I found the Hardy boys. Then, Frank became my favourite character for a long time until I discovered Sherlock Holmes.
My current favourite mystery author is Lousie Penny. I love her characters and I also love that the books are set in Canada.

My favorite detective series now is co-written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I find the best detective stories challenge the reader, so sometimes few people are willing to undergo the mental strain. However, I think reading detective stories makes you a more creative person since you have to think about things in a new way. What are other people's motivations? How could someone pull off a crime in that way? I will admit it could lead to criminals finding new ways to get what they want, but for those of us looking for some mental exercise, it's a great way to keep readers on their toes!
