Do you love detective stories?

I definitely like some detective stories. I like ones that have some kind of neat twist. For example, The Lieberman Papers by Frank Tallis take place in turn-of-the-century Vienna and utilize some early forensic techniques. These fun twists make the stories less predictable and keep me guessing.

I love detective stories with a passion. I love unraveling mysteries and I especially love it with a long series that focuses are two detectives or a detective working with another official. Like Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen style

I have a love/hate relationship with detective stories. I love the mystery, excitement, and thrill of the books but sometimes the detective type characters are nothing but nosy. If it's your actual job, then fine but if your a neighbor or it's a "hobby" I'm not a fan.

I used to watch the Nancy Drew show, but I was more of a Trixie Belden girl. I like detective stories if the author's writing is good and if they weave other elements in like love interests and other normal life aspects. As is the case with detective stories, however, they usually focus on the detective work. So, alas, I am not usually a detective story fan.

A good detective story is great, especially on a rainy day. They can cover all periods too, not just a modern day police precinct. A couple of my favourites are the "Cat Who" books by Lilian Jackson Braun in which a retired journalist solves crimes with the aid of his two Siamese cats. The other is the Cadfael series by Ellis Peters, where a Benedictine monk in the 14th century pioneers forensic science his way. Some of today's thrillers are gripping too, especially those coming out of the Scandinavian countries.
