Of course, since I was a kid! I grew up seeing my mum's detective novels all around the house. The first I read was 'Miss Malory Investigates' and it was the writer's first book but it was very enjoyable. Then I moved to Agatha Christie. Next thing I knew, I was drawn into the world of James Patterson and a host of others. It's always amazing the way they task the brain.

Kinnera wrote:I love detective stories! I started off with Enid Blyton and the Secret Seven were my favourite until I found the Hardy boys. Then, Frank became my favourite character for a long time until I discovered Sherlock Holmes.
I also started out with Enid Blyton and the Secret Seven and also enjoyed the Famous Five and the Five Findouters. I moved on to Nancy Drew though, and the Three Investigators.

My current favourite mystery author is Lousie Penny. I love her characters and I also love that the books are set in Canada.

I definitely like to escape into a good detective novel. It's fun to see if I can figure out what happened before the detective does.

I definitely enjoy detective stories and mysteries. I also love science fiction and fanstisy. Put them together and you have me really hooked . I read Nancy Dreward and three Herd boys growing up and still go back to them just for fun sometimes even 50+years later.

I do love detective stories as well. My firsts were the Nancy Drew novels too. I've tried tirelessly to get all of them, but never have. I also read Hardy Boys. Great detective stories. Have you guys tried the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries? By Brian O Hare? Great detective work as well. My favourite shows are also mystery based... Hawaii five O, Criminal Minds, NCIS... so i guess I'm a mystery buff... didn't realise how bad until just now *hides face* 8)
Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be...

Nancy Drew was my childhood heroine. Other detectives that I follow are Sherlock Holmes, Patrick McKenzie, Dave Robicheux, Lucas Davenport and Kinsey Millhone. Their adventures make my life exciting.

My first detective series was Nancy Drew too! I remember reading the first book and then hounding the library for the rest of the series. Those yellow covers caught my eye every time.

My favorite detective series now is co-written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I find the best detective stories challenge the reader, so sometimes few people are willing to undergo the mental strain. However, I think reading detective stories makes you a more creative person since you have to think about things in a new way. What are other people's motivations? How could someone pull off a crime in that way? I will admit it could lead to criminals finding new ways to get what they want, but for those of us looking for some mental exercise, it's a great way to keep readers on their toes!
