Thankfully, I haven't lost many people close to me.
However, a month ago we lost my husband's grandfather, who was more of a father to him than grandfather. It hit our family very hard, especially my son, who just turned 6. It's painful to think that he won't get the priviledge of remembering everything like we will.

My paternal grandfather died of cancer when I was in high school. We weren't especially close, but it hit me hard as a young adult because I'd only then realised I could lose somebody in my life. The very fact that it could happen shook me up.

That's exactly how I felt. I had never experienced something like it, so I couldn't believe it was happening to us.

This isn't a huge loss but lately I have been feeling the loss of my youth. I feel like time is going too fast and there is so much I want to do while I'm still young. Honestly I just have a Peter Pan problem.

The first thing that came to my mind was my loss of optimism. I don't like that I'm so jaded now.

Probably the loss of dear friend's daughter at the age of 14. We were very close to her, knowing her from a young age. Our families traveled together for many long weekends. When she was diagnosed with brain cancer at 13, we were heartbroken. When she died a year later, it was soul crushing to watch her parents go through the motions. We're not as close, as they moved away, as they couldn't handle being where they constantly saw traces of her. This was 5 years ago. We still talk some and keep in contact but it's different.

I lost both my grandma and grandpa within three months of each other. My grandmother battled Alzheimer's for several years and died in April a few years ago. My grandpa went to live with my parents because they didn't want to put him in a home and he died in June the same year. I went to his funeral and it was very touching to have them give full military honors at his service. It was a significant loss to me but more devastating to my dad.

I lost my mother when I was a child . It is like I lost a part of existence and it created a void in me that can never be fulfilled. It hurts more and more with every beat of my heart. I can't explain what I feel but it is the worst feeling and never wish it for anyone , not even for my enemies. That loss changed my life from best to worst. I am much more independent today but also chained with many responsibilities.

I lost my mother when i was 17. She was murdered... left home one day, didn't come home, found her three days later. It was very traumatic, and was worsened by the fact thst i had three younger sisters and a non existent father. That was my first real loss, and it has changed me tremendously changing every decision i made from then til now. Then a year ago, i lost my son, and i realised just how different each loss can be and how much i wish it on no one. Each loss eally does affect you in one way or the other forever.
