Baby, what's your age?

Post by Jaime Lync »

Elias fell in love with an underage girl. He had no idea that she was underage at the time their emotional affair began to bloom. Do you think it would have been possible for their love interest in each other to flourish if Elias knew that she was underage from the start?
I can testify that a girl was showing interest in me but when we found out our age difference we were like - Nope, this ain't happening. I think she must have been 13 and I was 16 then. I know if she was 23 and I was 26 that 3-year gap would have been nothing but at that stage those 3 years is huge.
Do you try avoiding getting involved with people younger than you? Is age a huge factor when it comes to romantic relationships? (obviously we should obey the law)

I was shocked when I read she was only 13, especially as he was much older than her. I agree that the gap won't matter at older ages. I don't think their relationship would have worked even if Elias knew that she was underage from the start, as she was much too young for him. She was a kid really and thought like one.

I have never got involved with people significantly younger than me when dating. My Husband is 4 years older than me.

This depends on the situation. The are some cases that age matters. Between two individuals with 50 years gap is impractical because they belong to different generations which may lead to different realities and different views. This will surely affect their relationship.

I would never date someone who is significantly younger than me. Three years is my limit. If they are more than three years younger than me then it won't work.

Age used to be important to me in the way that I would never go out with a boy that was younger than me. That only changed when I met my husband, although I did think he was older than me at the time. I'm obviously so glad I changed the way I thought now as we're coming up to our 4th wedding anniversary! I very much feel like age is just a number nowadays and some people just fit together no matter how old they are. Obviously not if one of them is underage though.

To me it all depends on maturity level. When you are young generally the maturity level is lower than older people but can be different in each individual. Once you reach adulthood the maturity level of the ages seem to level out again varies by individuals.

In my somewhat professional level, yes. The reason why is because for a lot of creepy adult/child relationships, whether it be between a teacher and a student or otherwise, the age difference alone could be grounds for jailbait, not to mention a telling sign that the person might also be a pedophile. Still, if the difference is one or two years, it's fine; at most, five years for me.

My husband is 5 years older than me. I agree that it might have been a problem when we were younger but it isn't now.

I will only consider age if I will be classified as a paedophile. But age shouldn't be a factor.

When I was younger I was very keen on the age gap but now that am older and wiser there are more important things to consider like shared values.

I think age matters but it depends with situation and how you feel for each other but for her she was too younger for Elias..

I think Elias would still have fallen in love with her because as the book says, it was love at first sight. When he found out that she was underage, it gave him a setback, but that's all. He was not prepared to make love to her, but neither her age nor her mother's charm and black magic could make him stop loving her.

I've never gotten the age hangup. I believe it comes down more to experience and common ground.

Take one 18 year old who's been through the wringer, and one 29 year old who hasn't. Who's to say which one is 'older'?
Basically, I don't believe chronological age makes much of a difference.

However, as has been stated, illigal is illigal. That wouldn't be okay.

I think that 3 years below and 3 years above is my limit for dating. Since I'm 21 this is great because I can date people ranging from 18-24 years old.

I think that he would have stepped away sooner, because he showed his character in leaving her shortly after he knew. How he didn't guess sooner, though, is the real question.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.
