Nadia was definitely the most sorted out character in the book. She knew what was important in her life and knew that she had to fight for it. I was a little disappointed with Yaser though. Why didn't he just tell his wife, right from the start, that he was an atheist? Why did he even have to pretend going to prayers for eight years! If he didn't have a problem with his wife's faith, Mariam too should have been understanding enough. If only they had sorted things out in the start, it wouldn't be such a mess.

My favorite character at first was Elias, but as the story progressed, Nadia easily took his place. I enjoyed the romance tied into Elias' story with Malika but as it progressed I began to get feelings of unease regarding their age and struggling with the idea of how quickly the infatuation between the two developed. Was it even love? Nadia, on the other hand, was a powerful motherly figure who seemed to go to great lengths to assure her son's happiness and safety. Had I been put in her situation regarding her son being shot, I would have found any way necessary to make him pay.

Even though she was largely a character in someone else's story, Malika is my favorite character. How she danced as a way to say goodbye to Elias and her past to pave way to her future really struck me.

Nadia was my favorite, for sure. She was independent and determined to write her own future. I'm conflicted about her ending, though. On one hand, how cruel it would have been to leave her son behind on his own birthday trip. But on the other hand, she was determined not to let her ex-husband dictate her life anymore, and I love her drive to be autonomous.

Nadia is my best character because of her strength and ability to stand for what she believes in.Her ability to overcome all challenges thrown at her is outstanding.

I think Nadia is the more relatable one but found myself liking Elias's story the best.

I liked Nadia the most. Being honest, she was independent and had a lot of courage, so I think is admirable.

I agree. I thought the same about Elisa's story.
I think Elias was a man who had a routinic and serious business life. when he met a girl from an ancient city, with passion, hopes and dreams, often that of a child who hasnt been tarnished by the reality of the world, it felt pure and special to im and people often get attracted to what they lack the most and in his case, it was love for life, dreams and purity

I loved Nadia the most, strong and fearless.

I think what was going on with Elias was new to read so it was interesting, but it didn't have the best ending but it had a strong beginning

Yasser was my least favorite. He was actionless and when he decided to take action, it was horribly at the wrong time and kind of uncalled for.

I didnt like miriam at first but started to like her towards the end

Nadia was definitely my favorite. She was strong-willed and no-nothing from the get-go. And she only got better as the book went on. I loved it when she called the cops on her husband, as she should have.

Nadia was the only character that kept me going. I find Yasser annoying and self-righteous, and I didn't care much for Elias. (That he was so close to committing statutory rape still freaks me out.)

I liked Nadia the most! The way she stood up against the patriarchal society and fought for what herself and her son (for example- when Waleed is injured at the wedding), is quite inspiring. I don't agree with her on all aspects (her beliefs about God), but her story resonated with me the most.

Like many, I also enjoyed Nadia's character. She was bold and independently fighting for what was rightfully hers. Still, I was also intrigued by Malika. I'm sure her early life was one of pain, and I couldn't possibly imagine pulling myself out of such a situation.
