The pretty flower would have died soon anyway, but since the rose was part of a rose-tree it would last much longer.

“there have been so many times
i have seen a man wanting to weep
but
instead
beat his heart until it was unconscious.

Words as poison, yet it stands so sweet. This poem and the feeling it fabricates will always be intimate. For everyone has suffered anguish from love.

Lovely poem! I studied Blake's poetry a lot in my English Literature class a few years ago, it was one of the most enjoyable parts of the course :D

I also like Blake's works and cannot but mention that he was talented not only at writing. Here is his "Europe supported by Africa and America".

I like how William Blake described people as flowers. Just like how the rose tree got jealous because the narrator was offered a pretty flower, it's just like the narrator's wife getting jealous because the narrator was offered a chance to cheat on her. Seems like nice poetry!

Also, it's quite creative, and I will definitely check out more of William Blake's poetry.

knightss wrote:A flower was offered to me,
Such a flower as May never bore;
But I said, "I've a pretty rose-tree",
And I passed the sweet flower o'er.

Then I went to my pretty rose-tree,
To tend her by day and by night;
But my rose turned away with jealousy,
And her thorns were my only delight.

This suits my taste.. Omg I like it!!!! ;)

I like this poem. It is a wonderful allusion to jealousy.

These beautiful lines by William Blake speaks of a person who stood by his love,come what may,with tolerance and faith,leaving all the best things he got in the way and finally got pushed away by his love leaving him heartbroken....lovely way of expressing the pain and sorrow fgot in return for true love.
