I'm glad that we have this section! However, personally, I feel that there should also be some stories by women on here as well.

I love the honesty about the evil in children, we usually don't want to face or even think about that. The part about them making up lies I found interesting. Why did the author call it lies instead of make believe or imagination or something else we actually encourage in children?

I don't know if this is where we're supposed to post suggestions, this Roald Dahl has some fantastic short fiction!

My favorite is called "Lamb to the Slaughter" and you can find it on Classic Shorts.

Has anyone read The Turn of the Screw by Henry James? A classical ghost story with multiple explanations and interpretations. Perfect for fans of Victorian era fiction :)

I'm not sure if they fit the bill, but here some excellent short reads that could be applicable:

  1. Harrison Bergeron - Kurt Vonnegut
  2. 2 B R 0 2 B - Kurt Vonnegut
  3. A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  4. The Last Question - Asimov
  5. The Bet - Anton Chekov

The main reason why we decided to start this section is because we know that many people don't have enough time to participate in the book of the month due to school, work, etc. So! this section will allow those of us with busy schedules (or those of us who are just looking to kill some time) to enjoy great reads that are recommended by your fellow readers =).

All these works can be read for FREE! That mean no money down.. and no payments either.. it's the best deal you could ever find.

Feel free to comment on anything and make suggestions. I will try to post some questions after ever work =)

Enjoy!!

This actually sounds great! Where are you planning to post some.. Please! I'll be waiting. gon keep following this post for some updates. <3

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

I would have to say that this is one of my favorite short works. I first read this short story in college and found it very interesting. The biblical overtones are unique in the sense of how they deal with the notion of sacrifice. Incorporating the black spot from the pirate's code of history and juxtaposing it with sacrificial death is intriguing. This shows a keen and creative mind. Although this work is a little macabre, it is still interesting.
