I really like the short stories of Saki - an English author writing in the years before the First World War. A lot of his stories show wry humour.

Also the stories of Damon Runyon - many of his stories are written in a style that is quite individual. A couple of his stories were the basis for the musical Guys and Dolls.

It is not a short story but I have to admit that "The Great Gatsby" it's an interesting book! I didn't used to read, but I met a philology student who recommended this book. Since then, my mind has developed an appetite for reading.

When I have no idea what to read, I find a bunch of free short stories online at lots of publications.
I look to see if they have any short fiction available that I can read first.

The stories on this list that are not from any of those publications, I found through simple Google searches.🔍

Here are a few of my favorite free short stories you can read online right now at 👇https://bookriot.com/free-short-stories-online/
It is just knowledgeable, not promotional.

The greatest part of a writer’s time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man will turn over half a library to make one book.
