EJenny59: Thanks a million. I've never encountered R A Salvatore, but if you like Anne McCaffrey and David Eddings, I need to give Dritz a try. Hope to discover a new favourite.

Hi there
Have you tried the Belgariad series by David Eddings, or the Assassin series by Robin Hobb? I loved them. Also love your choices, but don't know The Name of the Wind. Who wrote it?

I did not read anything that in the list, but I started reading Superhighway and liked it so far.

If I had tried to answer this question a year ago, I would have probably answered either Star Trek or the Marvel heroes. Over the past year, I have discovered some new series that have peaked my interest. Hard for me to pick just one as a favorite. I will share with you several I have really enjoyed. Jasper T Scott has several books written about the future of space called DARK SPACE. He has several different series and is continuing to write more. I enjoy his writing style and his story lines. Another book I really enjoyed was SOLARIS SEETHES by Janet McNulty. This is the first book in the series Solaris Saga books. I am looking forward to following along. Hope this answer encourages other sci-fi fans to try some newer writers.

Lord of the Rings was my first great fantasy love. Years later, I discovered David Eddings Bellgariad andMalloreon series and they completed very strongly for my favorite fantasy series. I spent many years reading sci fi and fantasy trying to recapture the magic that those series brought into my life. I could not find anything that even came close. The Pip and Flinx series by David Foster is pretty good but they are not of the same caliper.
Then, I happened upon the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. It has turned into a 9 book series over the years, with the final book having just been released. If you me, these are the best ever fantasy series. My wife, who has gotten involved in many series agrees. I have read other books by David Eddings and Robin Hobb, but the story line of the Assassin and the Fool is one that I treasure most.

A couple of my favorite series are:
Kushiel's Legacy series by Jaqueline Carey
The Kingkiller series by Patrick Rothfuss
The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind
The Wheel Of Time Series by Robert Jordan
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin

I am sure I am forgetting some but the series that got me started was the Xanth Series by Piers Anthony.

I read the first 8 books of the Wheel of Time. By then, the story had so many characters and story lines that it was becoming confusing. I kept hoping that the last book was the one coming out so I could finish reading the series. I think there are 13 or 14 books in all. I lost count and interest.

I honestly can't say I have a proper answer for this one. There are too many favourites to choose from! If you asked me ten years ago, it would have been Harry Potter. But today? Today, I could give you several answers, and they would all be equally true.
