To establish a good relationship, we must at first establish trust and mutuality. There has to be some kind of common ground and boundaries have to be set.

Trying to know each other and taking care of every likes and dislikes of your friends can be a good way to establish relationship and trust.

Respect is important too. It's the foundation of a lot of other things that make relationships work -- even love.

Be a good person and be smart enough to recognize if the other person is good person too. Everything else is semantics. Never present yourself as something you are not, always maintain a sense of humor and in the end understand that we are all humans and make mistakes and act on emotions sometimes.

I think communication is very important. Talk about each other's lives, your interests and fears until you come to a point that you can share each other's secrets and pains.

I also think communication is important when building a relationship. People must be able to clearly express their feelings in order to better understand each other.
