Several people begin their love for reading as a child. Was this the case for you? What is the earliest book you remember reading or the earliest book that was read to you?

Reflecting on this book, how is similar and/or different from Farmer Beau's Farm? Was it a picture book? What was the genre? Were the main characters animals, humans, or both? Do you still have this book?

Most importantly, what makes this book memorable?

The first book I remember having read to me was "Hop on Pop" by Dr. Seuss. The first book I ever read by myself was a Disney book. I can't remember it too well but I remember Mickey Mouse being in the book and I remember running to my parents and proudly telling them that I can read by myself.

I remember reading Grimm's Fairytales. It seriously got me hooked because the letters were big and the art was really nice.

I can't remember exactly which one it was, but my earliest recollection of books and reading are the Little Critter books. Whenever I go to my parents, I have to go through and read one or two of them. Even as an adult, I find them awesome.

It was one of those big cardboard picture books of Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs - I remember because the illustrations were so simple but so uncanny.

Oh my gosh!! Yes, I had a number of them too. I loved The Poky Little Puppy!! I completely forgot this adorable puppy. I read it all the time! I actually don't know if I could find this book. If it's still around, it would be at my parents' house. I should look into this. Thank you for the great reminder! :D

I don't know exactly which one it was, nor do I remember the incident in question, but I was a precocious child and my mother taught me to read well before I went to school. On my first day at primary school, she told the teacher I could already read and the teacher tried to get me to read a 'Peter and Jane' picture book. I rolled my eyes at her, and she told me to choose a book from the shelf and read that instead.
Apparently, I selected one of Enid Blyton's Famous Five books and read the whole first chapter aloud, without mistakes. I was four.

My earliest memory of a book is asking my mother to read the scriptures (book of St.Mathew specifically) to me when I was about 6 and I was so sick that I thought I was on my deathbed.

The first book I remember reading or having read to me was a book with Mother Goose in the title. I don't remember the exact name of the book.

For me it's I Love You, Little One! It was this kid's book that had absolutely beautiful illustrations and my mom would read it to me all the time.
