I agree with you in that I think the epilogue was totally unnecessary at the end. Even if maybe it served to show that the story will continue in another series.

I also agree that the search for the knife at the end felt disconnected from the plot and unconvincing as the closing chapter of the story. Both that part and the epilogue feel more like a "bonus" for the reader to be interested in a future installment than anything else.

I don't disagree ... I liked that it lead the reader to "what's next". However, I did think the epilogue could have been the first chapter of the next book.

I agree with what you say. If they ended with the epilogue it would be a better cliffhanger as for what would they find when they go searching

Yes, the ending felt like a sneak peek into the next book. It raises the question of who broke the powerful seal when Abigail was unable to do so, and took that knife. I don't think it could have been the prologue though. The Reverend's was too powerful to be missed.

I agree- it really did feel like a bit of a sneak peek. I felt like it the author was trying to expand the world (possibly a bit too quickly) in preparation for the next book. But I didn't mind the extra snippet. I thought it added to the suspense.

I wasn’t sure where tThis chapter was leading and I was expecting another round of fighting. I didn’t really like it, but I was still looking forward to the sequel.

Interesting to see things like this. Now I’m more excited about the book.
