I agree with you in that I think the epilogue was totally unnecessary at the end. Even if maybe it served to show that the story will continue in another series.

I don't disagree ... I liked that it lead the reader to "what's next". I agree- it really did feel like a bit of a sneak peek. I felt like it the author was trying to expand the world (possibly a bit too quickly) in preparation for the next book.
