The killing of a person is most times seen as an evil act. When a person does it for revenge purposes, one begins to think if that makes the act acceptable. Twisted Threads by Kaylin Mcfarren is an action thriller that exposes the twists and turns that overtakes the peace of a sailing ship. 2 months ago, Mitsui-san's sister was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool. An English couple got into a heated argument with her (Keiko) over two reserved lounge chairs. The next morning, a gardener found Keiko facedown in the pool. Who killed Keiko? Desirous of revenge, Mitsui-san (gang leader of Japan's notorious yakuza family) sets out to avenge the death of his sister. When he sends Akira to find the killer on the ship, Akira must make decisions that bother on loyalty, finding love, and thirst for freedom. Another major plot in the story is that of the watcher. She seeks to avenge her unjust confinement in a sanitarium for 10 years. When more dead bodies turn up on the ship, Akira realises there was a murderer on the ship. The identity of this murderer is a surprise Akira never anticipated. Akira and the watcher are going to play unique roles that are going to bring the story to several climaxes without them knowing each other. Who is going to be the new leader of the Zakura-kai gang? The answers to these questions lie in this amazing and compelling story of a lifetime.
What I like most about the story was the love relationship between Devon and Akira. My reason is that it gave the story a romantic appeal that I appreciated.
I did not like the continued silence of the ship's captain over the dead bodies that kept turning up.This was what I disliked the most in the story. My reason is that I don't think the number of dead bodies on the ship would have increased if he had reported the initial occurrences.
The book had lots of suspense and action. This made it an unpredictable read with a tendency to challenge the reader's creative imagination. The narration style was also simple enough to encourage a free flow of the story from start to finish. The plot had lots of twists that would leave the reader at the edge of his/her seat. This gave the story an entertaining appeal. The characters in the story were also real enough. One could easily identify with them.
I recommend this book to lovers of action thrillers, members of gangs seeking their freedom, those who have been unjustly accused, lovers of romance stories, doctors, and ship workers. This is because their lives are all uniquely reflected in the amazing plot of this story. Those who do not like murder stories may not want to read this book. Those who do not like romantic stories or gang stories may not find this story appealing. Also, anyone who has accused someone unjustly may not find this book appealing. This is because it talks about people getting revenge for the wrongs done to them.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not take out any star because it appears to have been professionally edited. I gave it a 4 because the plot was captivating and amazing.
