Imagine a wonderful tale of Christ, written as a tale of a little beggar boy! R.W. Nelson has captured a dazzling picture of the past in this book. No Dark Clouds is a perfect, soul-touching account of the Bible, re-told from the viewpoint of street children and beggars.
Centurion Leonidas has no idea that adopting and training Beggar Boy in the Roman garrison will influence the lives of so many other people. When the scar-faced Beggar Boy meets Aditya, Scooter, Rebeka, Figs, Baa Foo, and the baby, these beggar children, slaves of the task master become his family. The brave and kind Beggar Boy helps the children to escape from their slave task master but when he learns about the wonders and miracles performed by Jesus, and when Jesus heals Baa Foo and the baby, Beggar Boy starts to search for this "healer man" to remove the permanent scars on his face. However, Jesus is betrayed by Judas, one of his apostles and faces trial by the high Priest and Pilate. He is sentenced to death on the cross and dies on the cross. It seems to be the end of all hope for the Beggar Boy and his friends, but three days later, Jesus resurrects from the dead and heals the scars on Beggar Boys face. He also gives Beggar Boy the name Zachary and finally brings salvation, hope and peace to the children and to the whole world.
I liked that this book paints a vivid picture of the events that occurred in the time of Jesus and it is written in a new and interesting way, different from the summarized version of the story of Jesus which is written in the Bible. I also loved that a popular story, re-told from another vantage point and in a very interesting way could speak directly to your soul. I completely love this book because every part of the story is significant in the grand scheme of events which occur in the book.
I absolutely rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is very interesting and brings to light the activities which happened behind the scenes' in Jerusalem in the life-time of Jesus. It is well edited and has very few typographic errors. It is written with very simple language which children can comprehend.
No Dark Clouds is a "must-read" and I recommend this book to everyone, however it would be especially useful to children because in this book, values such as love, kindness, bravery, morality, faith, hope and charity may be learnt from this great book.
