Review of The Excoms by Brett Battles. The Gang: Six children have been kidnapped together with their chaperones on their way back from a retreat and a ransom will soon be demanded within a time frame, which is the only way to save the children's lives.
The Committee: Comprises of seven men of prestige and wealth, with an administrator. These men have all experienced grief in their various lives and their aim is to give help where help is needed.
The Team: Five individuals who are otherwise in trouble in their various trades and are already marked for death will have to work together, for the greater good, as orchestrated by the committee.
The Plan: Ananke, Dylan, Rosario, Liesel and Ricky must locate the children within the time frame given and save them.
What if there is a mole amongst the help givers that is sabotaging the efforts of the team, will the team be able to save the children ? Can the committee be trusted to be true to their promises? Will the team be able to go back to their various trades without the fear of being killed?
The Excoms by Brett Battles is action packed, fast paced, suspense filled and interesting. It is a kind of novel that you cannot just guess correctly till you read to the end. The author was able to infuse a lot of suspense that easily fuels your curiosity.
This book is well narrated and it is easy to read and understand. It has a very interesting story line which flows from one chapter to the next. I began to be curious right from the first page of the first chapter and the enjoyment spanned from that moment through to the end of the book.
Though the book is fast paced and full of suspense, it is filled with humour that will get you smiling. The characters are very likeable and their roles are very well defined, from Ananke, the team leader, to Ricky, the team clown, it is pleasing to find out how each team member activated their individual talents in seeing the mission through.
The Excoms is so well written that I couldn't find a downtime throughout my journey with the book. There was no part of the book that I disliked. The editors did a great job as I found only two errors, I therefore rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was very enjoyable with Ricky being my favorite character because he was funny and so full of himself. I recommend this book to thriller lovers or anyone who might want to try out the genre.
