Acquiesce to love peace gratitude by Fabiola Piedad Maria Alicia Reynales de Berry describes the author's journey of self-discovery. It begins with the author describing the dynamic of her failing marriage. This description seems to drag on for nearly half the book and made it hard to get into. I understood that she was unhappy and overwhelmed with anxiety, but it felt repetitive. She went into some detail about the techniques she tried to combat the anxiety for a great deal of this section as well. I disliked how long this seemed to go on for and made the first half of the book almost annoying to read.
The second half of Acquiesce to love peace gratitude makes up for the dragging on of the first half by going into detail about how her changing marriage and compromised mental state affects her living situation. In addition, this is when the reader is told how the author and her husband initially met and how their relationship begins to develop. I enjoyed this part more because it gives more depth to both main characters. Before then, we really didn't know much background about the couple, other than that they were miserable together.
Towards the last quarter of the book, the story begins to wrap up and the book begins to drag on again, but not as bad as the first half. It felt like the story ended and she kept dragging it on. In addition, the author spent a lot of this section describing what books she read and techniques she tried to help calm her anxiety and worries. While it was nice to get other book suggestions from this, it began to feel like it was becoming one long book review in itself. While they were an integral part of her development, a lot of the descriptions of the books were unnecessary and long.
I rated Acquiesce to love peace gratitude by Fabiola Piedad Maria Alicia Reynales de Berry 2 out of 4 stars. While the book dragged on, there were some interesting parts towards the end. However, I felt that in addition to the story being slow, the sentences didn't seem to flow, especially in the first half, and needed to be reviewed more.
I think this book would most appeal to those in a similar situation as the author, someone in a failing marriage or someone who is holding onto resentment, as they could resonate most with her. I also feel like people who have a hard time managing their stress and anxiety and would like to hear from someone else about different methods of coping with it, would be most interested in this book.
