Four Funny Potatoes is a children's book written by Len Foley. The illustrations are also by the author.
The content is about four Funny looking potatoes rhyming to a song written by the author. They seem to have been live on set at the time this book was written, as the director seems to be a French bean.
Arnie, Jimmy and Marvin the potatoes are into the song but Benny isn't pleased. He feels out of place for some reason since he's convinced he looks different, causing a break in the flow of the song to the annoyance of the ‘director’.
The illustrations used in the book are colourful. They are a mix of real images and the author's drawing overlays that bring out the uniqueness of each character. They are not cluttered or busy, which is good for children who do well with simple drawings that pass a clear message. The fact that they are fun to look at would be a plus for the kids, which I like.
The theme of the book seems to be appreciating one’s own uniqueness. The fourth ‘potato’ insists on being seen for who he really is, to the very end. However, all the veggies realise that they sing best when they are singing together. That means teamwork is also part of what the book is about. It also struck me that the poem/song can be great as a musical for kids, by kids. I can't name anything I disliked about the book.
I recommend the book for any child that needs a good laugh as well as parents, guardians or teachers looking for a great book to help kids with their reading skills. It also helps them identify the foodstuff found in a typical home as they have fun reading it together. I wouldn't recommend the book to adults, they should stick to their lane and read grown-up stuff. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars since there are no errors I noticed. The editing looks good to me.
