Chrome Mountain by Ben Schneider is a rough and tumble chase involving two people that fate draws together in a most dramatic way. Sonja McCall is trying to escape from her life with a vicious motorcycle gang, and Trey Radisson is a nerdy techie who invented, and then destroyed, an incredible device that could have severely and adversely affected the entire world.
Both are fed up with the way their lives are and decide to do something about it. Sonja hops on her motorcycle and runs. She hides, but after three years, her psychopathic ex-boyfriend and leader of the gang discovers where she is and is in hot pursuit. She knows he will kill her, so she runs again. Trey’s fiancé disappears when she finds out he destroyed his device, so Trey heads to his parents’ house to find a new life. On his way, the scariest things begin to happen. Someone wants his knowledge for their own dastardly reasons.
This is an extremely well-written story of danger, excitement, mystery, faith, and love. The story of how two such different people meet, how they deal with situations they are thrown into, and how they continue on despite the incredible dangers they face, is an exciting read. Sonja and Trey have to rely on each other completely in order to overcome and conquer everything that is thrown at them.
I rate this 4 out of 4 stars. I appreciate that it is well copy-edited and proofed, is very fast-paced, and has very few grammatical errors. What errors I found were consistent errors: “Of course they are” and “me too,” but omitting the comma in these places seems to be more accepted these days. “U.S. of A for that though” was the only other mistake I found. I really like the way the author develops these characters and how the story line flows smoothly, but dramatically, from one situation to the next. There really wasn't anything I didn't like about this book.
I would recommend Chrome Mountain to everyone. Its fast pace made it very difficult to put down. The story is a unique blend of terror and bravery and how these two overcome dreadful circumstances. Sonja and Trey complement each other’s strengths, overcome so many trials, and finally come to faith and love.
