The Life and Lessons of a Young Author is a non-fictional book written by Sunayna Prasad. This is a very quick read packed with the information about the author’s experience in writing and publishing a book. This book offers advice, tips and tricks about the “craft of writing” to the aspiring writers. This book is divided into eight sections with short chapters narrating the readers about how publishing industry works.
Sunayna Prasad had a passion for writing since childhood. She started by writing short stories and making picture books and later, at the age sixteen, she started to write her first novel Alyssa’s African Adventures. In sections two and three the author elborates about the difficulties and obstacles she faced as a newbie.
The best part of this book, is that, it will assist the new writers by providing them some useful tips on character development, brainstorming and how to make a great sequel. I appreciate the author for explaining about the importance of building a strong fan base in social media and the need to properly proofread the manuscripts before publishing a book. The difficulties in traditional publishing and the advantages in self-publishing was very beautifully narrated by the author. The rules of the Amazon website mentioned in the book was very informative. In this book, the author cautions the beginners to avoid info-dumping while writing a book and to refrain themselves from paid review platforms after publishing a book. The author also warns the aspiring writers to set low expectations in the beginning of their career so that they will not lose their self confidence while facing rejections. The author also advises the beginners to accept the constructive criticisms given by others, as it will help them to evolve as a better writer as time goes.
The author did not provide in-depth guidance on how to become a successful writer. The author failed to provide detailed publishing techniques and writing skills. Most of the information shared in the book is already known by people and is not very informative. The ideas shared in the section seven of the book was good. The examples cited in this section of the book was very vague and irrelevant.
I rate the book, The Life and Lessons of a Young Author by Sunayna Prasad 3 out of 4 stars as i found few grammatical mistakes which could have been avoided since it is a very short book containing 30 pages.I recommend this book to all aspiring writers as it will be very useful for them.
