Learn to Play Guitar by Gareth Evans is a guidebook on how to play the guitar, for beginners to the intermediate level. It teaches you how to hold the instrument, how to tune it, where to place your finger, the different chords and even has little quizzes to test the learner.
I am truly in love with this book, and I am very happy that I got to learn from it. I chose to read it because I have always been interested in learning how to play the guitar. This guidebook has made it easier for me to do so, as it has provided many details on how to do just that. One of the best parts is, it's not just limited to one type of guitar, but has information for various models.
The information provided was simple and I did not feel overwhelmed at any point due to the language used. I do have to admit that there were moments when I had to reread several portions because I could not understand what was being said. However, this was not a fault of the author but is just what happens when you are trying to learn something for the first time. Above all, I loved that it had pictures and audio to provide demonstrations, which is very good for persons who are more visual and hands-on learners.
This guide is not to be considered light reading and is for a specific audience; those who want to learn how to play. It does get a bit tiresome after reading for an extended period, but that is understandable. Again this is no fault of the author.
One of the best features of this book for me is that it has a recap section, with questions to be answered by the reader. I have found that having a quiz after each section helps the student in the subject matter. It may even highlight things that the student could have overlooked.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, as I truly learned from it. There were no errors noticed while reading, and the formatting was well done. I am far from being good at playing, however; I know more things now than when I first started. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to play the guitar, no matter the level they are at. There is quite a lot to be learned from this book and readers will not be disappointed.
