[Following is a volunteer review of "The Surgeon's Wife" by William H. Coles.]

The Surgeon’s Wife by William H. Coles is a dramatic tale with the professional aspects of the medical practice. It has three parts with 37 chapters. Dr. Clayton is a famous surgeon who do the obese surgery. The surgery has high risks and questionable benefits. The story begins, when he makes a mistake at operating table. Mike Boudreaux is the chief of surgery at a hospital in New Orleans. He had to take an action against him. Things between Clayton and Mike are not as easy as they seem. Clayton is Mike’s mentor and professor as well. Clayton is also one of the powerful surgeon in the New Orleans. He is rich and has many links. On the otherhand, many doctors want Mike to take an action against Clayton. Mike is caught in maelstrom of friendship and his duty.

Clayton’s wife, Catherine, is exactly opposite to Clayton. She wants Clayton to love her. Clayton is always busy with his work. Rosemary Dayside is Mike’s girlfriend. Catherine and Rosie meet during a tour. They talked. Both of them, feel unwanted and unloved. Helen Rappaport is another important character. She was a patient. She also plays an important role in the novel.

The story revolves around Mike, Clayton and Catherine. The novel has many other important characters. Unique characters is one of the best thing in this book. It invoke many strong feelings and emotions in the reader. My favourite character in the book is Catherine. The way she feels about love is so mesmerizing and amazing. My favourite part of this book is where Catherine and Rosie talks about their love life.

The way the author writes about all the medical stuff is also amazing. This shows the effort put by the author while writing this book. It seemed much like the doctor report. He also writes about the problem of obesity. People are obsessed with the perfect figure. Many people risks their life to have a perfect body shape. Some people prefer surgeries.

In the first part, the story falls flat. Clayton and Mike were living a normal boring life. Mike looks like a workaholic. But as the story slowly progress you came to know more about all the character.

I will give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The story is well written. There are no major grammatical mistake. The book is professionally edited. I will recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic love story. This book contains not only conflict between two good friends but also a love story. The end was sudden. Hope so there will be a sequel of this book. There is no unnecessary details described by the author.

I felt that there was a resolution in the ending, even if it was left to our interpretation.

Thanks for your review! This sounds like a good medical story focusing attention to the increasing problem of obesity. Character development is always important in this type of book. I'm glad it has good editing and will pick this one up to read when I have extra time.
