After observing the murders and torturing crimes the Screamon Demons were capable of, Sonya McCallin decides that she has had enough. She then steals thousands of hard cash from Levi her ex and leader of the Sacramento gang, a malicious and odious biker gang that she is now running away from. On her journey to starting a new life, she falls in love with Trey Radisson, a brilliant scientist and innovator also chased and wanted by the chrome mountain terrorist group. Together they run from the gang, terrorist group, and police, shooting down helicopters and driving really fast on motorbikes.
Chrome Mountain by Ben Schneider is a well written action-packed thriller. The author draws the characters in vivid strokes, in a way that will capture readers and take them to a completely different world. Ben Schneider makes the story more alive and realistic by allowing us into the minds of the protagonists detailing their every quiet moment of reflection. On top of all that, the book is professionally edited with no errors.
I loved the overall tenor of the book and how Trey and Sonya worked together to overcome challenges. Sonya’s character was my favorite. She is intelligent, resourceful and definitely not a doormat. She thinks fast and her brave moves kept both her and Trey alive. Her character reminds me of Carol Peletier from the walking dead, rising from an abused boyfriend to a tough and fearless woman. Conversely, I did not like Trey’s character. Apart from his scientific innovation, Trey’s character was often looking to be protected by Sonya. He doubted his capabilities and often waited for Sonya to make all the decisions for him.
Very little was written about Trey and Sonya’s love story. Apart from holding hands and sending texts with emojis, there was no chemistry or romance. A few chapters towards the end of the book, Sonya adopts Christianity and nothing in her background mentioned that she was Christian or how she adopted it. I also felt that the Author wrote very little about the Sacramento gang than he did with the Chrome mountain terrorist group. I wished that he had balanced the involvement of both groups.
Overall, the book had an interesting story line but did not keep me engaged until the last page. For this reason and the above reasons, I rate it a 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to sci-fiction and action thriller book lovers.
