I picked Chrome Mountain up for review as Sci-Fi/Fantasy is my genre of choice. It is the debut novel of Ben Schneider and boy, it didn't disappoint.

We start off with Sonya McCall who is trying to flee from her criminal past after being physically and sexually abused by her then-boyfriend and biker gang leader of the Screamon Demons, Levi North. Meanwhile, Trey Radisson, a Jewfro-wearing genius who invented a breakthrough cloaking device, the Veiler Version 1 or VV1, is having recurring nightmares about the device being used for evil and decided to destroy it.

Three years after our protagonists’ introduction, we see Sonya living quietly in the old home of her grandmother and Trey living miserably since destroying the one invention that could have been his ticket to fame and fortune. As fate would have it, certain circumstances will lead both of them to meet and they will need each other's help as they face the high-tech terrorist group called the Chrome Falcon as well as the wrath of Sonya's ex.

The first thing I could say about Chrome Mountain is that it's definitely not lacking in action. Right from our first meeting with the main characters up until the last few chapters of the book, we are treated to gunfights, explosions and high-speed chases old-school action stars Stallone and Schwarzenegger would be proud of. While the action sequences were nothing new, it did its part to keep me flipping the pages to see what’s going to happen next.

All the bombastic parts aside, I like that the author still managed to balance it out with quiet moments of reflection by our protagonists. While they were able to evade or escape their pursuers, they’re not at all too happy that people were getting hurt and killed because of them which gives the element of faith incorporated to the main characters much more meaning besides giving them the hope and strength in their ordeals. Another thing I also commend the author for is the great and diverse characters he created for the book.

Some might frown because of the violence and all the killing in this book but I think it’s understandable for a plot as action-packed as this. I just can’t help but be a little disappointed with the villains though. As high-tech and as organized the Chrome Falcons were, they really fumbled a lot in their pursuit of Sonya and Trey. I was also expecting much more from the Screamon Demons but their part in this story was snuffed out so fast and so easily. Anyway, there’s a lot to like in the book and I definitely had a blast reading it. It was also professionally edited as I found no errors in it.

Chrome Mountain is a highly enjoyable book, replete with likable characters, high-octane action and enough humor to reel readers in. I rate this book 4 stars out of 4.

He forgot that certain instance can make him tf face chrome falcon and wrath of sonya. The characters are well structured. This book sounds exciting. A non-stop action thriller is touching on two fascinating characters on the run. Although I like action filled technological thrillers like this one, however, I don't enjoy a book with a lot of gunshots and bombings involved. Thanks for the review.
