This is a coming of age story but the topics that are covered in the book like harassment, aggression, abuse, and rape are pretty serious even for an adult. Because of this the book sounds to be intense, interesting and worth reading. It will be exciting to read how the events wih their twists and turns will unfold in the book. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

This book was a lovely and descriptive whirlwind for me! While I didn’t wholly love the plot (and I definitely struggled with the graphic sexually abusive scenes), the author’s uncanny ability to lift the reader out of our world and into hers was an enormously rewarding experience.

The coming-of-age book sounds intriguing. But it is not for me . So I will bypass it. Great review.

It's cool that this author was good as describing the scenes and creating well developed characters. However, I'm going to pass, because I'm not a fan of sexual content. Great review.

Steampunk as it should be, with mysticism and adventure, an alternate history that warns about what could happen and a coming of age story that should appeal to teens and adults alike. 3.5 star for me

This is a genre, or combination of genres as in this case, that I do not read. I could just never get into sci fi. I do appreciate your review though.

I read the sample pages of this and found, like you, that Juanita’s grandmother was so brave as she attempted to save the baby. The writing is quite intense. I wasn’t drawn in completely by this one, and your mention here of sexual violence doesn’t suit me. Thank you for the insight on this one.

I have read and reviewed this book. The author does a great job at combining steam-punk with mysticism.

Thank you for the great review.

The Engine Woman's Light tells an interesting story of the extraordinary persons who can talk with their departed ancestors, and the spirits predict the dangers in advance to save their dear ones from certain doom.
Laura Anne Hill has written an intriguing and engaging book.

I read the free sample provided by Amazon. It's obviously a genre that's not to my taste as I thought it was tedious, I held no interest in any of the characters as I thought the storyline was bad and oddly written.
To each their own.

I read the first two chapters of the sample and couldn't get into the story. I decided to check out the review to see if it might be worth it to continue reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and your warning of rape and abuse was much appreciated. I'll pass on this one.

The sample was good, but steampunk is not a genre I can get into so will give this one a miss for the being. Great review though, sound like lovers of steampunk will enjoy this book.

I've not read steampunk, didn't think it fit my concept of the books I prefer. However, the sample of The Engine Woman's Light drew me in at the first page and kept me reading. I seldom pay for books, but will purchase this today so I can continue reading this tale, it seems worthy to be called a n 1800s California fairy tale.

I am anxious to learn more about Juanita and the powers that teach and assist her. I Want to know more about this asylum -- and know it will be featured in upcoming chapters -- the author has spent too much time on it in the beginning to let it go. I am curious about Magdelena, and I want to know how it was that Zetta's son Juan deciphered her message about Mr. Locke on the back of the envelope in which she mailed Juan's postcard to his brother.

Of course I'm hoping Juan comes to know his daughter Juanita -- but then, I do like a happy ending with all of the ends tied up in a pretty bow.

It's great to see that the book is nicely written and the author have an eye for building and developing his characters with aplomb. Good one!
