Concealment by Rose Edmunds is a mystery-thriller novel that kept me intrigued till the end.
Amy Melisa Robinson has a well-paid job in one of the best companies along with a high rank in the office. She is a professional and well-dressed woman who lives a perfect life. That's what others think. But no one knows about her inner demons, her secrets, and the reason why she doesn't allow anyone into her life.
Her life is as normal as it can be, either supporting her coworkers' promotion or completing her part of the work. But her life flips upside down when her junior colleague goes missing after a night in a club and is found dead after a few days. She gets involved with people she had never thought about and gets mingled into troubles that might disturb and reveal her past and what she is going through behind the façade she hardly puts up.
Not only have the circumstances, but also every person that she is acquainted with proves her why she never wanted to reveal her life history to them. She knows that her boss hates her for some unknown reason and realizes that he might be the one behind the sudden departure of her coworker. Will Ed Smithies, her boss, let her get out of the situation she tumbled into or will he prove her guilty and destroy her career?
This story contained words that were foreign to me since I had no idea about business and all its technical terms. So it was difficult for me to understand what was going on when the story started. But as it proceeded, I understood what was happening in the story. Office politics was the highlight for me and how different companies competed and worked together, depending on the circumstances.
I loved the character development of Amy, the protagonist. Since this story revolves around a visibly strong but internally vulnerable female character, some readers might not like it. But I would still recommend them to read this book. The thrill wasn't lost as the story continued. In fact, it continued getting more exciting, and I was eager to complete the book as soon as possible.
The story is written in the first person perspective which provided more mysterious vibes to the story since I had no idea what other characters were thinking. Every character was written perfectly, and I liked how I was suspicious of each person for being guilty. I'd like appreciating the author's writing style for it. There was nothing for me to dislike it.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It had no grammatical or spelling errors which made the novel all the more interesting to read. I recommend this to all the mystery novel readers and would love to read other novels written by Rose Edmunds.
