World Incorporated by Tom Gariffo.

Welcome to the Misinformation Age.
Agent Sliver is the personal covert operative to the CEO of one of the Super Corporations: World Inc. When one of his missions does not go as planned, he will start to question his world and his place in it. Will you?

World Inc. is a Modern Dystopia that seems to have hit the nail on the head. This book almost seems as a well-thought out prediction for our future as a society instead of science fiction. There is enough of our present society in the book mixed with a possible future that very well could happen. The world that we currently know is not gone; it is just changed in a way that most of us probably wouldn’t see as bad. Of course, there are many of us that would. While some would say, one evil has taken over for another.

The year is 2058 and the government nations, as we know them, are gone. The government is hanging on by a thread and has no power against the Super Corporations. We start out with ten corporations and end with five. These five corporations provide us with all the goods and services we need on a daily basis. From law and order to clothes and groceries. People are no longer seen as citizens. They are merely consumers and the corporations fight to have the most loyal consumers. From birth to death our lives are recorded and stored in a registry for this purpose. In our current world we can already see how the 'governments' around the world are being manipulated by mega corporations, which makes World Inc. even more believable.

I rate World Inc. four out of four stars. It was an exceptionally good read. The writing style is excellent, which makes for a natural and easy reading experience. The characters had depth and made for a great connection. The main character is so relatable that you can’t help but like him and root for him. One of the better elements of this book is how the characters interact and grow in the story. The premise is not only engaging but is also extremely fresh. Tom Gariffo’s writing style and theory makes World Inc. very believable. This is a book that everyone needs to read.

If you love science fiction that runs a thin line between fantasy and reality, then World Inc. is definitely a book you should read. It will make you think, ponder, and maybe see your everyday world in a different light. If, on the other hand, conspiracy theories make you mad, roll your eyes, or just are not your cup of tea, you should probably stay away from this book. It is definitely a ride meant to inform and it delivers in every way.

Tom Gariffo, himself, has stated that his story is more than likely not dystopian, but rather imminent. I couldn’t agree with him more. I need to read more of this man’s work.
