And Then I Met Margaret : Stories of Ordinary Gurus I’ve Met is a self-help book by Rob White. I saw this story as an autobiography of the author since it traces his life from his sunrise days to his sunset days.
Rob traces his background from a humble family but he beats the odds and becomes a very successful entrepreneur. He has businesses and investments such as in real-estate development. After acquiring massive wealth, Rob realizes that he is rich but he is not an all-round man. He is worried that despite the money, he is devoid of spiritual satisfaction. It is now clear to him that money is anything but not everything since it cannot help him acquire spiritual fulfilment.
Rob then realizes that he is obliged to go out and look for people who can help him get a life full of peace and fulfilment. Out there, Rob comes across several people and he learns a significant lesson from each of them. These are the ordinary “gurus” that play a key role in ensuring that the life of the author is steered towards a better course. Some of the people he meets include a peanut seller, a woman and a very little girl known as Margaret. These people help the author to shape the inner definition of his life. Of all these “gurus”, Rob reaps a lot of lessons from the young Margaret hence the title, And Then I Met Margaret: Stories of Ordinary Gurus I’ve Met.
To me, this book is very inspirational and encouraging. I tend to believe that it is capable of reshaping our lives whenever we may seem to forget the real definition of life. This book has various chapters and I was very impressed to learn that each chapter says something new about Rob. The author begins everything chapter with his misconceptions about life and ends it with the truth and the lessons he has since learned. These stories that revolve around the personal life of the author will not fail to make you encouraged.
And Then I Met Margaret challenged me that money is capable of being anything but it lacks the capacity of being everything. I declared money as a vanity. To me now, happiness in life is what I value most. I learnt that the abundance that happiness gives us free should not be taken for granted.
I liked how this book encourages readers to always be open-minded so as to learn from people around us no matter the social cohort they are drawn from. Remember that a rolling stone gathers no moss so if you give to others and want to move on alone, you will not be capable to learn important lessons from them.
This book is easy to understand and interpret since Rob employs the use of a basic writing style. Besides, he has also used proper diction and the plot of the story is very lucrative. Since the story is told from the first person’s point of view, I felt that the author was addressing me in person.
The story is properly ordered thus many readers will easily trace the story. This eases its general flow. I would recommend this book to people who need advice and encouragement on how to reshape their wrecked lives. This book will make you get a new definition about life. You will also learn to associate with people without discrimination.
Since And Then I Met Margaret has achieved the highest qualities, I gave it 4 out of 4 stars. Pals, this is a must-read book!
