ReAssigned is a fast-paced medical thriller that seamlessly blends hospital drama, espionage, and high-stakes crime. What stood out to me was how the book tackles the real-world dangers of chemical and biological weapons without feeling preachy. The author grounds these terrifying, large-scale global threats in realistic scenarios, making the suspense feel incredibly close to home.

I initially thought Jun and his wife, Shi, were the main characters, but the deeper I got into the story, the clearer it became that the real protagonist was Dr Savannah Dawson. She’s the ultimate force holding everything together while balancing the demanding pressures of her career. By day, she’s saving lives in the high-stress ER environment while simultaneously conducting intense, dangerous investigations behind the scenes.

What I liked most was how much people trusted and believed in Dr Dawson's expertise. That stood out especially after the earthquake, when several amusement park rollercoasters broke down and she was the first person everyone ran to for medical leadership. This chaotic scene perfectly showcased her ability to remain calm under extreme pressure.

Author Shayla C. Freeman has done a wonderful job with this piece. Reading it felt like watching a fast-moving motion picture, with vivid imagery and cinematic pacing. That makes sense—besides being a writer, she also holds a degree in journalism and media production, which shines through in her sharp, descriptive writing style.

There’s nothing I disliked about the book. It kept me glued to my seat from start to finish, and with absolutely no profanity or sexual content, it’s a clean story that I could easily read out loud to my whole family. It is exceptionally well-written and well-edited, with no spelling or grammatical errors. For that, I give it a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.

I’d highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys medical thrillers, especially readers in healthcare or anyone curious about how science and national security overlap.
