Thanks for commenting! Yes, there is quite a bit of confusion. It wasn't until I started posting in the BOTM forum that I went back and saw the back cover where it says he has extraordinary powers and this book is about what he does when he's not saving the day. Not very clarifying, but sort of gives the impression Toni's superpowers may extend past being helpful, friendly, and well-rounded in his activities.

Good point about rescuing cats - this is not only something your average child aged 1-3 wouldn't do but also a scenario better known from fiction than reality! (To cite another familiar image, maybe Toni should have been shown helping a little old lady across the road!) BTW I don't think it matters if children are memorizing words that go with pictures. They could still look at the letters and figure out how they relate to the sounds (kids who teach themselves to read at age 3 or so do do this). Words are kind of arbitrary - babies learn to talk by relating sounds to things, but those sounds are only agreed conventions.

I believe that this is a very informative review of this book. I like that you mentioned that it shows Toni doing both indoor and outdoor activities. And also speaking in regards to him being a super hero just doing his normal everyday thing.

I so agree that Toni's hobby of rescuing animals does not keep with the other activities listed in the book. What I like the best about this book is that it promotes reading as a habit to young children.

I really like that Toni enjoys reading and that this book is targeted to such a young age group so parents can start cultivating that love of reading in their children. I personally think children who read early on will be more inclined toward reading and academics in the future.
