Review of Ellie Ment and the Material Matter

[Following is a volunteer review of "Ellie Ment and the Material Matter" by Bertie Stephens.]
"Ellie Ment and the Material Matter" is a whirlwind tale of adventure, fun, and many valuable lessons. The story follows Alix’s exciting adventures as she navigates the challenges of dealing with new materials and making her discoveries. All the while, her experiences help her think about how the materials in the world come to be, and how they help us as we live in this world.
Here Ellie will learn about the importance of curiosity, belongingness, and responsibility as she goes through the entire story, all while the reader wants to keep reading!
The author's writing is full of creativity and builds an interesting place that is both fun to visit and learn about.
Ellie is the main character because she is intelligent and shows determination, but at times shows self-doubt, which makes her relatable to readers. The story offers plenty of suspense and draws the reader in.
The writing is relatively easy to read and create clear images for the reader. Young readers and teens will enjoy this story because it is a combination of adventure and education. The conversations in the story between characters are very natural; this helps to give life to their unique characteristics.
Another downside to the writing is that it may feel somewhat rushed in some places; there are a few characters who could have been developed more; and there are a few aspects of the story that could have been explained more thoroughly. However, these factors do not lessen the enjoyment of the read.
I would recommend this book for pre-teens/teens who enjoy mysteries and adventure stories that relate to science. This book would also be ideal for readers who appreciate good fiction with an educational component.
In conclusion, “Ellie Ment and the Material Matter” is a highly enjoyable read and has a great message about the importance of curiosity, persistence, and understanding.
