Diary of a Snoopy Cat

This is a heartwarming story of cats and dogs helping their devout owners. Inca the cat is the lead character and narrator. She decides to write in a diary chronicling her adventures and humor attempts at becoming a detective. Is there murder, betrayal, vicious fights? You’ll just have to read this book, which is one of many in a series by author R.F. Kristi. Diary of a Snoopy Cat is for cat and dog lovers, intended for beginner readers, and the author could have been more creative with the diary.
Diary of a Snoopy Cat is for cat and dog lovers. The reader gets to experience these precious animals help their human owners out in various situations. The human owners seem to understand their pets without speaking their language. But for the most part, it’s more so the pets talking among each other with little human to human interaction or even human to pet interaction. We learn how each pet is treated by their owner by the pet.
Diary of a Snoopy Cat is intended for beginner readers. It is for readers in elementary school. The book has no paragraphs. Each sentence is separated from each other. I understood this was for the reader to be able to read without getting stressed. There were pictures on most of the pages. The pictures help enhances the already vivid imagination of children. There are no complex words in the book only words you would find on a spelling test. This kept the book simple and keeps the story smooth sailing.
The author could have been more creative with the diary. Since this book was a diary, the author could have formatted it as such. There could have been stickers included with the book of all the characters. There could have been pages the kids could have written on. But the pictures on the pages was also very creative and strategic.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. It only appeals to a certain reader. If there is a child that isn’t an animal lover, they would lose interest quickly. However, the story was easy to follow from beginning to end. I didn’t give it a 4 because this isn’t the best children’s book I read. I didn’t give it a 2 because It barely had any misspellings or fragment sentences. I didn’t give it a 1 because it wasn’t garbage or confusing. I liked that all the animals had different personalities, so that each reader had a character to connect to. I disliked that we weren’t given a descriptive account of how Inca the lead character and cat ended up with her owner. This book will appeal to kids learning how to read and love cats and dogs. This book will not appeal to readers in Middle school and higher-grade levels and adults.
