Do you have a friend who just won't give up on you? No matter how many mistakes you make, this person stands firmly by your side encouraging you to get up and keep going despite your shortcomings. In his self-help book, If Life Stinks, Get Your Head Outta Your But's, Mark Wdowiak offers his advice as a steadfast acquaintance with no strings attached.
Right from the opening pages, Mark does not hold back on his tough love approach by making it crystal clear that the reader is responsible for his or her own life. He writes with a brutal honesty that if we don't like where we are in life, then it is the result of our own poor thinking and decision making. He gives numerous examples from his own experiences where he was trying to place the blame on others for his failures, while in reality, he was sitting at the main control switch creating undesirable circumstances for himself.
One of the best examples of this was when he was pressured into attending an event he really had no interest in. While his mouth said yes, internally he wanted to decline due to the expense and the time away that this trip would entail. When he finally worked up enough courage to cast off the peer pressure, he found that the event planners didn't even flinch over his decision not to go.
This example and many more are included in this well-written guide on how to have the life you desire. It frees the individual from self-defeating behavior and calls for a new mindset and perspective. He inspires his audience to go from a victim mentality to take back their personal power. Written in an easy to understand style, with short chapters, this book has the potential to help many out of the pit where they find themselves stuck and wallowing. To further drive the point home of making a commitment to oneself, the author has the reader write his or her initials at the end of each chapter. This signifies that there is a contract being drafted to start on a new journey with yourself blazing a more rewarding trail.
I have read many of Norman Vincent Peale's publications, and this book ranks right up there in its similar style of presentation. I thoroughly enjoy books such as this that promote the power of positive thinking and remind all of us to be grateful for what we have. There are not long arduous steps associated with what the author is instructing his readers to do in order to make good changes for themselves. In a rather simplistic way, he effectively corrects through sharing interesting facts, life landmines to avoid, and his own personal faults to instruct those who have ears to hear. This book would be best suited for those who enjoy an enlightening self-help book with some deep points and a few laughs thrown in along the way.
I am giving this book a 4 out of 4 stars as it seems to have been professionally edited offering no errors and the quality of the writing is excellent.
